CHINA INTENSIVES

Students at the Shaolin Monastery Gate, Group II of 2000
CHINA INTENSIVES AT THE SHAOLIN MONASTERY 2010
You will bring your
practice to a deeper level at one of the energetically most
powerful places in the world, the Shaolin Monastery. Built in
the Henan province of China in 477 A.D., the monastery is world
famous for its martial arts (kungfu), and it is here where
Bodidharma established Chan (Zen) Buddhism in China. After
spending nine years in meditation, he incorporated local
practices (presently known as qigong) with Buddhism, and created
an integrated body/energy/spirit system of self development.
Last year over 400 students of ZY Qigong from all over the world attended the intensives at Shaolin. Special diets and herbs, students and teacher practicing long hours together, and a location that has been a wellspring for enlightened souls combined to bring about fundamental changes in many participants.
Intensive retreats are offered for both beginning and advanced students during the months of July, August and September. Packages include complete travel arrangements from Beijing and full accommodations at Shaolin.
Note: for 2010 there will only be 2 groups:
The 2010 schedule is:- Group 1 from July 11 to August 1
- Group 2 from August 1 to August 29

A Word from Mingtang
First, I want every participant to know that the practices in Shaolin will truly be deep and intensive. Intensives are unlike regular workshops. Be prepared for some very concentrated and potentially difficult practice.
Second, you must get up very early. Morning practice starts at 5am.
Third, you must be physically prepared for the occasional six hour long hike.
Fourth, for deep practice, to experience the "bigu" and pause states, advanced students must be prepared to fast without food or water.
Fifth, lecture time will be limited. Be ready to practice a lot and a long time with me during workshop hours, and by yourself at other times.
The annual intensives encompass three basic elements:
Spiritual Communication and Teaching
Songshan Shaolin
is famous and effective because of its energy level and
great spirit. If you are fortunate, you will communicate with
spiritual teachers directly and also learn exercises from them.
In addition, you may see dragons and receive special gifts.
Physical Training
Physical training to increase stamina and health includes mountain hikes and walks, as well as optional kungfu martial arts and tai chi training.
Diet
We offer two options:
The first consists of enhanced nutrition including herbal soup to eliminate toxins, elevate your qi and prevent aging. Your diet is designed for optimal body weight. If you are overweight you may experience weight loss at Shaolin.
The second is bigu shiqi, fasting and taking in qi in place of food. In order to increase qi, purify the body and develop our spirit effectively we practice bigu (no food) and shiqi ("eat qi").
The duration of the bigu shiqi option for Group I & II will be from 10 to 14 days. For Group III, the duration of this optional experience will be 18 to 22 days.
Group I
Develop lower back brain function, improve creativity with Knowledge Transplantation, improve your respiratory and circulation system to bring you to the deep calm state. Deepen your first and second level ZY Qigong practice and review the third and fourth levels.
We encourage family attendance at this retreat. Parents bring their children or vice versa.
Adult children and their parents will participate in the seminars together; younger children will have the opportunity to study martial arts.

The airport is located two hours by bus or taxi from the Shaolin Monastery. The taxi ride from the airport to Shaolin will cost between $30 – 40. A 50 minute video documentation of our 1999 intensive is available for $15 to defray the cost of postage and production. It gives a good idea of what we are about and the spirit and flavor of a stay in Shaolin. In addition, below are 12 videos of lectures Mingtang has given at Shaolin. Note that Mingtang greets students in Russian, but then teaches in English. Also, the sound in the background is from children practicing kung fu, a common activity at Shaolin.
