What Is Qigong Healing?
Qigong is one of the world's oldest systems of healing. It is said that qigong scanning was used by the legendary Chinese emperor Shin-nong to develop the fundamentals of Chinese herbal medicine more that 7000 years ago. Many of the well-known disciplines that are based on the theories of yin/yang, the five elements and eight gua have developed since the inception of qigong. Feng shui, bagua, acupressure, acupuncture and tai chi all share the same principles with qigong. Qigong also shares similarities with other ancient healing methods and teachings from around the world. The concept of qi, vital energy or life force, exists in almost every culture.
Initial Scanning
With the initial qigong scanning, the healer examines the client on three interconnected levels: physical, energetic and informational. These three levels are dependent on one other and determine one's overall health: physically, mentally and spiritually. For example, when you are physically vibrant and healthy, your energy is strong, your emotions are stable, and your thoughts are clear. When your energy is low, your immune system is weak, and you become easily stressed and depressed. A qigong scan can detect illness with extremely high accuracy, and often detects the source of illness long before there is any physical manifestation.
Course of Treatment
The qigong healer treats the entire person. A course of treatment is individually tailored to each client since no two people are the same, and no one person is the same at any given moment. Clients may have similar symptoms, but the origin of their illnesses may be completely different. In all cases, the healer uses her/his developed energy to "jump-start" weakened or dormant energy systems, to awaken qi centers, open qi channels, and to re-establish the innate healing processes. Using the information gathered from the scanning, s/he tailors the treatment to balance the client's qi among the body's organs. S/he takes away excess qi, puts in qi where it is needed, and restores a state of balance. To heal the informational system, the healer looks into the original events in the client's past life that have caused emotional damage. When it is useful for healing, s/he helps the client remember the origin of the illness. S/he may use images or mantras to help the client undo the damage. During the course of treatment, an emotional release of sadness, anger or fear may take place, often in the forms of shaking, crying or laughter. These are normal reactions that help reinstate the necessary balance of the physical, energetic and informational systems.
Qigong Exercises
Qigong treatments activate our self-healing systems. They require the client to cooperate and fully participate with the healer for maximum results. Some clients will be given simple exercises to do during their course of treatment. Doing these exercises will shorten your treatment and healing time. Some qigong exercises might bring about sensations that are not always comfortable. This is because when qi is trying to go through blockages, there is more pressure than usual. Healing yourself with qigong may take a few days for an acute problem. Chronic conditions may require a year or more of qigong practice. In all cases, follow-up practice is recommended to maintain the balance necessary for good health.
Who Can Be Helped by Qigong Treatments?
Virtually everyone can benefit from qigong treatments. The rate of healing is dependent on a number of factors, not the least of which is the client's own attitude towards becoming well. The rate of healing also depends on whether the condition is chronic or acute, and what stage the illness has reached when treatment begins. One of the advantages of qigong healing is the healer's ability to detect deficiencies in the body's subtle energy field before any physical manifestation of an ailment appears. For example, with many cancers, no outer symptoms may appear until a very late stage of the illness. For extremely late stage cancer patients, qigong treatments can greatly reduce the pain and minimize the length of morbidity.
The scanning ability of Mingtang and some of his students allows them to find the origins of "undiagnosed illnesses." They have successfully treated many forms of cancer, such as cancer of the breasts, ovaries, uterus, cervix, prostate, lungs and brain. Treatment is also very beneficial to sufferers of autoimmune illnesses such as allergies, asthma, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Where Can One Receive Qigong Treatments?
ZY Qigong healing practitioners generally are found wherever ZY Qigong communities exist. To schedule an appointment with the practitioner of your choice, please contact that person directly. Here is a selection of practitioners:
Currently, Mingtang is only seeing clients at the Kundawell Institute in Beijing, China. Clients typically come for two weeks to receive treatments, herbs, special foods, and training in qigong exercises and practice. He has just recently started working with cancer patients and is researching the most successful method for healing this disease. Contact the Kundawell Institute at research@kundawell.com. The institute opened in April 2008 and is currently building its website.
In the Seattle area, several practitioners treat clients on an outpatient basis. Sessions of typically one hour are scheduled if an initial scanning indicates that a course of treatment is necessary for healing. Clients are also seen for spiritual self-development sessions and prevention care sessions. Three people currently practice at Seattle Advanced Bodywork Associates, the main clinic for ZY Qigong healing practitioners: Jean Clough, Peter Roth and Claire Johnson. Other practitioners in the Seattle area are Robyn Callahan and (periodically) Master Liu Dong.
In the Vancouver, BC area, see Deborah Mac Innis.
